ART BEYOND BORDERS
"Promoting Contemporary Chilean Painting in the American Market"

In the year 2000, The Montecatini.cl  Art Gallery won the PROCHILE contest to finance a program to promote Chilean Art in various countries. The main objective of the project is to promote contemporary paintings by artists from the Bio Bio Region of Chile and to position Chile culturally rather than just economically in foreign markets.

This initiative included four exhibitions: in Costa Rica in November 2000, in New York in March 2001, in Jamaica in July 2001, and in the Miami Durban Segnini Gallery in September 2002.
Each artist exhibited 8 works in a variety of formats (100 x 120 cm, 100 x 100 cm) using oil or acrylic on canvas (linen) techniques. They are all vanguard paintings.

These painters developed their artistic proposal working within a purely contemporary style and are representatives of the best of contemporary Chilean painting.

Each one has created a large number of export quality pieces and their careers are backed by their extensive participation in multiple exhibitions and contests, as well as by their presence in several art books.

In 2003, the Montecatini Gallery, with exclusive representation of the artists Gina Intveen, Alejandra Cigarroa, Coco Pierart, Jorge Guerrero, Rubén Fernández and Alejandro Arrepol, held shows of Contemporary Chilean Painting in the following countries:

 “With the force of Eros”

 At first when we began discussing the subject with Pilar Ríos M. for the art show in Antigua Gallery , Guatemala, we paused on this phrase and we are still working on it with remarkable dedication considering its attractive nature.

 The concept force, a term that I personally like very much, is defined in mathematics as the “intensity of the push or pull”, summarizing this word in a simple phrase. On the other hand, Eros is the mythical Greek God responsible for sexual attraction, love, and sex also leading to fertility and creation.

 Basically, after much thought, I like the idea of “intensity of love”.

The subject of love is deep and complex and I dare to say, impossible to understand or experience if we do it based on the physical body;

love is only obtained through thought.

This idea as a reference point in my work is fun and transcendental, as well as being very attractive due to its polysemous character, especially if we add mythological beings such as Eros and equations or colors that give us the “force”.

Eros in itself  is a chaotic force which through the artist’s hand is achieved by means of human intuition such as the space and time to put this vital energy into order.

After going through an earthquake of 8.8 on the Richter scale, a tsunami and, as a result of these, a 24-hour social earthquake, I feel that this force or effort to reveal the complex man or woman inside of us is particularly pertinent.
