Animalario chilensis
The show consists of 8 etchings in medium format (50x70cm) and 6 in small format (30x40cm). A “green” etching technique is used, where the matrix is made from the recycling of tetra-pack milk cartons. This raw material is worked with drypoint, and a roller to provide textures, and various grades of sandpaper which play the role of etching, which is used in the metal engraving. The paper used for the etching is worked with inlays of wallpaper, prior to printing.
The search for the essentially Chilean animal and bird figures is a first step in the transformation. The accurate picture adopts human characteristics; the animals use elements which don’t belong to them. They are a kind of x-ray of the Chilean psyche in search of an internal avatar. The sensuality is a mark of hedonism, within a culture that wants to apprehend external elements to make them their own, and be part of an imaginary globalization, to "belong", be accepted, implying a lot of work, which sometimes transgresses the inner being. The sensual costume tries to emphasize qualities and reduce imperfections |
